As part of this assessment you will have your pupils dilated using drops and have a thorough assessment of the type and severity of your cataract.
You will also have a detailed assessment of the back of your eye and a discussion about the pros, cons, and risks of the surgery, which are very small.
A cataract is a clouding or loss of clarity of the lens of the eye. The clouding prevents the light entering the eye from being focussed clearly onto the retina. This leads to a loss of visual acuity but can be readily treated with modern cataract surgery and the insertion into the eye of a lens implant.
